She could run for miles, do endless push-ups and sit-ups. She could shoot a gun, and spar passably with a set of combat knives. She could break codes, write them, track someone without being captured herself, and beat just about anyone in unarmed combat.
The training her organization put her through was rigorous, she said, but worth it. Their boot camp was required of every new recruit, no matter how old.
When I became the newest member, I thought it lucky that they hadn’t forced me to participate. Until I realized they were hoping that, without the camp, I’d die.
