04. Bug

The beetle was watching him. Little black wings folded in close, it stayed in the doorway, preventing him from leaving. It probably knew how much bugs scared him.

A calm voice called Eddie’s name. He wet his lips and replied, unable to shake the unease that the thing was going to become ten times its size and eat him if he looked away from it.

“Eddie,” Brad said, at last appearing in the doorway. “I’ve been calling you.” He caught sight of his boyfriend’s face, looked down, and crushed the beetle under his heel. “There,” he said. “Feel better now?”
