13.  Temperance

He cringed at the sound of a door slamming.  When Naomi came storming into the room, dropping the backpack she’d used for that day’s assignment on the floor, he slid over so she could join him on the couch. 

“Bad day?” he asked, muting the television.

“The worst,” she groaned.  “Two Renegades escaped, Eva took a knife to the shoulder, the boss was pissed.”  She rubbed her temples.  “I could use a drink.  Or five.”

He raised an eyebrow at her.  “Let’s avoid a repeat of the last time you got shit-faced, okay?”

Naomi glared at him.  “Asshole,” she said.
