15.  Diligence

“Why are you still fighting?” Slash asked her, as she picked herself up off the ground for the third time. 

“Practice makes perfect?” Naomi responded, wiping her bloody nose. 

“No, practice means you get your ass kicked.”

Naomi shook her head.  “You may believe that,” she said.  “I refuse to.”

Her sparring partner sighed.  “Why do you care so much?  You know you’ll finish eventually.”

“Not if I can’t beat BC,” she snapped, raising her taped fists.  “And I can’t do that if I can’t beat you.”

Slash smiled at that.  “Yeah, true.”  He, too, raised his fists.  “On three.”
