21 The first thing you broke
The first thing I broke wasn’t tangible. It wasn’t a vase, or a toy, or a bone. Nor was the break a clean one. There was no neat crack down the center, no greenstick fracture. Instead, the first thing I broke wound up shattered in metaphorical pieces, all over the floor of an apartment that wasn’t mine.
I’m talking about my boyfriend. He tried, time and again that last night, to break me. It was only a matter of time before this happened, and if I hadn’t turned the tables, I might have been the one who ended up broken.
