23 Dog Days

“Jesus,” Mike exclaimed, shutting the window.  “It’s hotter than hell out there.”

Rosa lifted her head off the pillow and looked his way.  “Then come back to bed,” she suggested, drawing the sheet away from her body.  “It’s nice and cool in here.”

Mike laughed at her come-on.  “It won’t be if I crawl in,” he said, rejoining her anyway.

“As if I care,” she murmured.  “God, I love the dog days of summer.”

“Are you kidding?  This kind of heat is only nice when we both have nowhere to be.”

Rolling atop him, Rosa agreed, “You got that right.”

Mike Foster and Rosa Cruz.  Original characters.
