39 Superstition

“You’re sure about this?” Jason asked.

Anna looked up from the adoption papers.  “Absolutely.  I’ve wanted a pet for as long as I can remember.”

“Yeah, but don’t you want a dog or something?”

“In our apartment?” Anna laughed.  “You’re kidding, right?”

Jason sighed.  “Fine,” he agreed. 

Setting down the pen, she glanced over at him.  “Do you have something against the cat we picked out?”

Sighing, Jason explained to his girlfriend, “It’s black.”

Anna blinked.  “So?”

“Black cats are bad luck.”

Laughing, Anna gave him a hug before kneeling to pick up the cage.  “Not this kitty,” she said.
