40 Breakdown

The engine was smoking.  Naomi angled the car to the side of the road, switching off the ignition.  What did she know about cars?

Grumbling, she got out and lifted the hood.  Smoke continued pouring out of it, so thickly Naomi couldn’t see what the problem was.

A motorcycle pulled up next to her.  She had her hand on her gun before she realized it was James.  “Looks like you’ve had a breakdown,” he remarked.

“Know anything about engines?”

He laughed.  “Enough to know that yours is overheating.  But don’t worry,” he added, interrupting her grumbling, “I’ll wait with you.”

Naomi Williams and James Knox.  Original characters.
