78 Can’t Take it In
I had never been more excited for anything in my life. After a hospital stay that had lasted months, plagued by endless surgeries and therapies, medication changes and recovery periods, I was finally going home. What’s more than that, I would be going home to a different world.
The nurse wanted to wheel me out the door, but I insisted upon walking. Naomi met me there, wearing the biggest smile I had ever seen. “Hey,” she said, reaching for my suitcase.
I let her take it. “Hey.”
I looked past her into the clear new day. “I’m ready.”
James Knox and Naomi Williams. Original characters.
