I had the best of intentions re: regular blogging in 2015, so I’m a little chagrined that my last post is from August. (August! Has it really been that long?)
Although I don’t delude myself into thinking that there’s a large group of you out there, wondering why this blog went dead for almost four months, I wanted to post an explanation anyway, just for the purposes of keeping myself honest.
2015 was supposed to be the year where I really hit the ground running with my writing, especially after two tough years of struggling to find my groove again. And in a lot of ways, I feel that I succeeded. I’ve churned out more words this year than I have since 2012. I’ve completed one major revision for FACING THE MUSIC and taken huge steps toward finishing the first draft of a story that I’ve had in my head since 2013. I’m super proud of the work that I’ve managed to do and the progress that I’ve made.
However, I didn’t realize until August that the year was slipping away from me, as time so often does once the weather warms up and I feel my most alive. Between my job, my ongoing job search, and my personal life, I realized that something about my schedule was going to have to give if I was going to have a prayer of meeting my writing goals for this year.
Around that same time, I saw a couple excellent people online, writers whose work I admire and whose opinions I respect, pointing out that your writing should be your number one priority if you aren’t yet published. And as much as I enjoy blogging and coming up with blog posts, blogging isn’t writing. Writing is writing, and I decided it was time for me to buckle down and focus on that.
While I have no intention of neglecting this blog in 2016, I do want to prioritize my writing over every other professional thing in my life, especially in light of some news that I’ll share with you later this week. I’m currently planning to do two regular posts here a month on whatever I feel like writing about, just to keep my blogging brain fresh.
In the meantime, I’ll be doing a couple end of year wrap-up posts in the next week or so, just to finish 2015 on the write (pun definitely intended) note.
It’s good to be back!
